media well-being and digital values

Balancing digital engagement and mental well-being is important in a world saturated with information. Digital Citizens Week (October 16-20) recognizes the significance of media well-being – understanding the impact of digital content on our minds and emotions.

This year, our focus revolves around two pivotal themes: Media Well-being and Digital Values. So put your tech devices on silent, and let’s delve into these themes and explore the many ways they shape our digital lives!

Media Well-being: Finding Balance in the Digital Age

How do we balance school-work-social life in the digital age? We believe practicing mindfulness techniques and digital detox can help. To facilitate “finding balance”, we have implemented digital well-being lessons to ensure that out students receive valuable information on all things tech. We emphasize that in the vast ocean of digital content, it’s essential to navigate with mindfulness, ensuring that the information absorbed enhances student well-being rather than overwhelming it.

Digital Values: Cultivating a Positive Online Culture

Digital values lie at the core of being a responsible digital citizen. It’s not just about how we use technology but how we treat others in the digital sphere. Having digital values mean showing empathy, respect, and inclusivity, reminding us that behind every screen, there’s a human being with feelings and experiences. We encourage students to champion kindness, combat cyber-bullying, and foster a supportive online community. By embracing digital values, we create a harmonious online environment where everyone feels heard, respected, and valued.

Promoting Media Literacy: Empowering Digital Navigators

Media literacy is a focal point of ours during Digital Citizens Week. As a member club of Girls Who Code, we provide information sessions aimed to empower students to critically analyze media content, discern misinformation from truth, and become adept fact-checkers. By nurturing media literacy skills, we empower ourselves and others to make informed decisions, ensuring that our digital interactions are grounded in truth and knowledge.

Here’s to a future where our digital legacy is marked by compassion, knowledge, and positive connections! #DigitalCitizensWeek #MediaWellBeing #DigitalValues #MediaLiteracy #TechForGood #GirlsWhoCode
